Things You Can Do On Our Doorstep Canoeing: There is a mini bus from Tocane st Apre that takes people and canoes up river and drops them off at certain points so they can gently canoe back to where they started. The drop-off points vary from, a two hour canoe ride back to a full nine hour trip back. It's great fun for all the family as there are no rapids. Swimming: The French like to use their rivers for swimming and having family days out with a barbeque and the Dronne River is no exception. There are lots of places along the river where safe bathing makes a change from the pool. The French bring in loads of sand at the beginning of the season and make a small beach. The water is so clear and younger members of the family will enjoy using a snorkel and watching the fish. The cottage is just 300 metres from a great swimming place in the river.
Cycling: Bike hire is available in Montagrier, and cycling in the Dronne Valley is a breath taking adventure. There are so many lovely villages to explore. Montagrier has a very substantial VTT office (the French Cycle Association) with about 500km of marked cycle paths both on road and off road. Maps and full details are available from the office which is 300 metres from us. Walking/Rambling: Just 300 metres from the cottage is the Dronne River. This makes an ideal start to a days walking. The path follows the river in each direction and passes by old mills and weirs and continues for about the length of the river (300km). You could also walk over the hill and into the valleys and farm lands passing the sun flower fields and exploring some wonderful countryside. Horse Riding: Tocane st Apre has a pony club and caters for the younger members of the family as well as adults. There are several other riding stables close by. Fishing: Well I for one have tasted the salmon from the River Dronne. This river is full of fish and there are swims to suit every angler weather you are a fly fisherman or course fisherman you will be thrilled at the endless choices this river give you. There are other fishing lakes in the area too and other rivers. The Isle river is just 40 minutes drive away. Tennis/Table Tennis: Tocane st Apre has facilities for tennis and table tennis. |
